Challenges in learning a language

Posted on August 21, 2007. Filed under: Spanish-learning |

I remember when learning to speak English it was such a challenge! I felt embarrassed to speak in public although I could certainly understand and write the language. I would get sooo nervous, tremble and turn red everytime all eyes where put on me to answer a question or participate in a conversation.  It took me about 3 years while going to college to actually get comfortable enough with myself to know that I would make mistakes and it would be OK.  My own expectations and all the pressure I put on myself where making it a lot harder to relax and go with the flow, which I now know is key when learning a language. The lack of valuable, easy to use, affordable tools where the reason it took me so long to learn. I learned it the hardest way.  That is the reason why now I want to help people learn my native language: Spanish. I feel I can relate to people who are willing and possible struggling to learn a language.
